Singaporeans are foreign smugglers, so says Yakcop
Written by ED on May 29, 2008 – 9:29 pm - Posted in Current Affairs, Singapore |I have never once swear in my blog, but this time to Malaysia’s Second Finance Minister Nor Mohamed Yakcop - DAMN YOU! You will probably be ashamed to talk about the human smugglers in your own country.
I have never had any adverse opinions of Malaysia’s adjustment of petrol prices because like Singapore, the subsidies should always be directed at the citizens before all else. That is only rightful. In that sense, it is perfectly in Malaysia’s jurisdiction to re-assess their funds management.
Is it a trend in the Malaysia’s government to go around name-calling like some spoilt brat? Certainly so, based on the long standing issues of Malaysia with her neighbours. I don’t know how I can embrace Yakcop’s words when he said, “Why should we give subsidies to foreign smugglers?”
In business it is always buying in low and selling high to make a profit. As long as there’s a seller, there’s a buyer. I believe Malaysia too, buys in processed water from Singapore and selling to her own citizens at a higher price. Or perhaps, Malaysia also buys in raw materials at a lower price and after manufacturing, sells the products for earnings.
The purchase of petrol over the years has always been done openly. There were no legislative laws to ban such purchases, not until now. Throughout, Singapore has also raised the petrol limit before Singapore cars can cross over to the border. Technically speaking, Malaysia should see a decrease in the amount of petrol over the years before fuel limit was imposed in Singapore.
Maybe Yakcop should try and focus a little more on human smuggling syndicates in Malaysia instead, that will decrease the amount of arrests Singapore will have to do along the Northern shoreline. Look, almost every other month there are people attempting to swim into Singapore with assistance from boatmen. Obviously, Yakcop is not aware of where and who the real smugglers are.
Or maybe, reduce the amount of robberies or broad daylight extortion by Malaysian police officers on vehicles. Maybe some of these might help raise the profile of the country, and recover some funds depleted by none other than their own officers.
A huge amount of Malaysians earn their keeps in Singapore, do we see Singapore calling our Malaysian friends… goldmine robbers?

Anytime is always a good time for Spore-bashing. Anyway, it is just kris-waving rhetoric.
