Chu Qian Yi Ding (出前一丁) Tom Yum-my

Written by ED on July 16, 2008 – 3:20 am - Posted in Food, Reviews |

I think I am getting very addicted to this flavour of CQYD. I have cut down a lot on instant noodles due to the MSG but somehow, I can’t stop for this. In fact, I just bought 3 packs of this and they are my precioussssss for now.

You can’t compare this to the tom yum soup you get outside, those are cooked with very nice ingredients as a complement to the soup base. But, this is very very very close. In fact, I have tried two other instant tom yum mix but they somewhat didn’t taste right. This is the most authentic tom yum taste I have tried, in instant form that is.

Poor CQYD Sesame Oil flavour, it has been banished to the icy cold palace for now. Now I have purple packets of instant noodles all over, it really looked like some kitchen revolution going on. I’m not a big fan of tom yum, because I can’t take spicy food very well. Tom yum is unique because of that sour element which you do not find in most food. I still remember one of the tree-top dinings I had in JB, the tom yum is superb! Even better than those Thai restaurants along Purvis Street.

Ok nvm, it’s past 3am now so having those is out of the question. Well, that explains my quick fix with CQYD tom yum flavour. A word of caution though, watch the amount of water you add when cooking. Too much, it taste bland. Too little, it taste too salty. It needs to be just right.

Also, having the noodles by itself is going to be a little… plain. Try stealing throwing some cabbage, prawns, eggs etc, the flavour might be even better. I was too lazy to wait for the prawns to thaw, so I used luncheon meat instead. Oh dear, it just taste so uberly wrong. So heads up for you, don’t even use luncheon meat with tom yum.

Don’t expect a heavenly feeling from it. Like I say, it’s one of those quick fix in the middle of the night!

If you have not tried this yet, go buy one for yourself? Try it and let me know if you like it.

Waah piang eh… Have you gone commercial and just done an advertorial? LOL OK must try this brand of instant noodles. My favourite is still Maggi Mee’s Curry Chicken and Assam Laksa.

Walter, oh no~ I am not paid. Something I tried at home and post up willingly.

Maggi’s curry is very nice too. Nothing comes close to that. Have not tried Assam Laksa though, but might grab one the next time I go to NTUC.

not sure if you notice that the content (in terms of weight) of flavored CQYD is less than the red original sesame oil one.

    =P

Actually I didn’t notice that. It looks the same to me, but now that you raised it, yea I might just bring both out and compare. :)

Maggi Assam is niceee! I also like CQYD Seafood but this flavor only available in cup-noodle and not packets.
