A year with Dreamhost

Written by ED on June 28, 2008 – 6:37 am - Posted in Reviews |

How time flies? My account with Dreamhost is nearing its expiry and it’s time I renew it. Thinking back on these past 11 months that I have been with Dreamhost, they have given me nothing but absolute good customer service.

Dreamhost was first introduced to me by Malique through one of his promotions, and fellow friends like AdrianTYC and Kloudiia supported me in taking up my own web hosting account. The whole idea of my own webhosting account seemed so remote to me back then, because I always imagined that webhosting to be a very difficult thing. It still is, but at least I have managed to learn simple stuffs like setting up email accounts and such.

Over these 11 months, I have sent less than 10 support tickets. Not wanting to abuse the system, I have always selected the appropriate urgency for my queries. I know, there bound to be customers who use the option of “Urgent, people are dying…” when their problems are seriously trivial. But no matter how urgent or trivial my problems were, the support team never fails to reply within a stipulated time. Customer support officers like Samuel, Mike M, Brett G, Robert R, Trey, Sandon, Joshua etc… these guys have been extremely kind and patient with me.

The other thing I like about Dreamhost is, THEY’RE GREEN! I don’t know how many more webhosts are green, but at least Dreamhost is. And I’m proud to be a part of this green movement they have adopted here. A single person’s effort may seem too small to matter, but a collective effort by Dreamhost and their customers together certainly will add on to the green movement with other industries.

In the past I have often left my PC to run for 24 hours. I’m just too lazy to switch on and off, since I do not have a definite time of logging on. Nowadays, I am switching off my PC more and more. Not just to save on electrical bills, but I find it useful to direct my attention to other activities like spending some quiet time reading the Bible and other books. Well, it’s helpful also to spend a little more time on other productive stuffs.

Too bad, there is no more discount I can use for this renewal. This time, it will cost me more than SGD$100 to host for another year. It’s worth it, since they have given me such good experience with them. You readers, should have observed that my site has only been down once due to a bad weather condition in US. There is nothing much Dreamhost can do about that other than to quickly switch me to a new server, which they did. Other outages you have seen in my blog are 99% unrelated to Dreamhost.

If you’re thinking of a new webhost, why not give Dreamhost a try?
