“Nurin Alert” System ready for use.

Written by ED on December 4, 2008 – 11:25 pm - Posted in Life, Society, World | No Comments »

More than a year ago, I wrote about the tragic plight of 8-year-old Nurin Jazlin in Malaysia. Recalling the event briefly, she was kidnapped and sexually abused. She was found dead and stuffed in a gym back almost a month later. Today, Nurin is still being remembered which prompted me to read up on the progress.

Suspects were arrested back then, but they have been released due to lack of evidence. Despite the assistance rendered by FBI, nobody has been officially charged for this hideous crime against a defenseless child. The monetary rewards have also failed to yield any incriminating leads that will see the culprits punished. One year on, this case seemed to be hanging in the air without a closure.

BRAND’S Blogger Challenge - Singapore emerged victorious!

Written by ED on December 3, 2008 – 4:33 pm - Posted in Blogosphere, Reviews, Singapore | 23 Comments »

Well, the Singapore bloggers won. To cut it short, Singapore team went against the odds and won with 54 points over Malaysia team’s 47. If you were there watching the challenge and aware of the point system, you will actually realize it’s not a big margin. It was a lot of fun with the rest of the bloggers comprising of Eastcoastlife, Wilfrid, Aaron, Sheylara and myself. I hope the rest enjoyed it as much as I did.

I think the Malaysia team did pretty well with Red Diva, Sultan Mufazzar, KY, Suanie and Babe in the City. They certainly deserved to be praised for taking the lead and hanging on to it for quite a while. As cool as ice, they sat back in their chairs and tackled the challenge. I think we were making more noise than them. Haha!

BRAND’S Blogger Challenge at Geek Terminal

Written by ED on December 2, 2008 – 5:33 pm - Posted in Blogosphere, Singapore | 3 Comments »

I am rather flattered that Eastcoastlife even feel that I am good enough for this. So before I go on to rant, I must admit I ain’t the brightest of all among my peers. When I received the email invitation from Burson-Marsteller, I was like; mental… what!? performance… what!? *roll eyes* I guess the short explanation of their Asia survey actually aroused my curiosity and it sounds interesting enough, so I agreed to it the next day. I don’t see many blogger events that actually focus on personal improvement anyway.

I wished I could share some of Brand’s findings which accompanied the prescribed dosage sent to me. It’s too long actually. There were several attributes which they included in their survey; fast thinking, creative thinking, mental alertness, good memory, ability to absorb information well, concentration/focus and clear thinking. Each country surveyed also varied in their results and it was enlightening to read through them.

How many more Lo Hwei Yen do we need?

Written by ED on November 30, 2008 – 2:17 pm - Posted in Current Affairs, Life, Singapore | 8 Comments »

Yes, everybody knows the story by now. It shocked not only Lo Hwei Yen’s family but along with their painful loss, it also stopped the hearts of many Singaporeans as her death was confirmed. The nation has poured out utmost sympathies to Miss Lo’s family and expressed the anger towards this very terror act carried out in Mumbai. Perhaps it was due to the fact that she was the first direct Singapore fatality in recent years of terrorism since September 11.

I do not know Hwei Yen, the emotions just got the better of me as I read of the impressions she had left in the hearts of her family, friends and colleagues. Maybe some of you have passed by her on the streets, maybe she was that girl who sat on the next table when you dined. At that point, you wouldn’t have thought much of it. Admittedly, I wouldn’t too. But, who would have thought that this very person would be gone in that split second?
