WHAT!? You’re not a virgin???

I don’t know how I can open this post in the most appropriate way honestly. Virginity is not a commonly discussed topic, not because we are shy about it but rather most of us have already lost it. What is still there to talk about?

This morning, I was reading through the old threads in MUMMY SG when I tripped and fell into one that was discussing about the loss of virginity. Apparently, I did not drown in that thread so that explains why I am still seated infront of my PC. It was hilarious, but yet the reality of our modern sex life is sorta reflected in that thread.

The thing is, the value of one’s virginity has depreciated so much that it is almost close to nothing now. Man and woman alike, losing virginity way before adulthood becomes part and parcel of our lives ironically. In our modern societies and advanced cultures, you would have been seen as a freak if you have not lost your virginity before ending up in bed repeatedly with your legal spouse.

Of course, like many others I began to question myself - how on earth do we calculate the value of virginity? Seriously, I haven’t gotten the slightest idea. If there’s no value to it, how is it a depreciation then? I would liken that more to moral values than attempting to pin a monetary value on sex. As most of us whom have experienced sex, it is priceless. *grinz*

Over time, we often hear how women would lament against the men for multiple ex-partners… the women seemed not to be able to break away from this evil cycle as well. Is it only women whom have lost their virginity? The truth is, that’s hardly the case. If the unmarried females with their virginity intact stands at 100%, how the male species lost theirs will be a big question mark. I think I don’t want to know the answer, spare me from losing my appetite for breakfast. I will leave that to your imagination. Hahahaha…!

Is this a post to counter the women? Definitely not. It was just something I found funny whenever women say something like “who knows how many ex-gfs he has been to bed with”.

I am sure some men would go exclaiming, “Hey! That’s our natural instincts”. But look, you’re the highest intellectual animal walking on earth. Would you not know about self control? Afterall, men are often labelled as the culprits when women lose their virginity. This age-old practice seemed to suggest that women gave up their virginity unwillingly. Of course, the fundamental doubt is when a woman is unwilling to have sex, who can force her?

On the other hand, women would often place the “credits” on the pressure men applied on them to have sex. The most commonly used reason is such that, they did whatever they did in the name of pleasing their men. So if a man failed to be responsible for stealing her virginity away, he must be one hell of a bad dude! Moreover, women are always the ones more accomodating towards non-virgin males than the other way round.

How much truth are there in both stands? Beats me! However, what I do know is that with liberalism both women and men are equally guilty of treating virginity with less importance. It isn’t necessary always the men’s fault as many of us know. Furthermore, the emphasis of sex education today isn’t about preserving virginity but rather, safe sex. Sometimes, I wondered if it’s a good idea to bring sex education into the classroom. The benefit is the awareness of pre-marital pregnancy and HIV infections. The side-effect? Many more have learnt how to “cheat the system”.

So who is right and who is wrong? Are men always the big bad wolves to slip under a woman’s skirt and rob her of her most precious treasure? Or are women giving themselves away too easily, because they too - see little importance in virginity?

Times have changed… not only with more exposure in sexual activities. But times have also changed to the point, the pots are calling the kettles black.

    well said endoh!

actually as a male virgin, I feel that we do get discriminated against…

sometimes I wonder why do virgin males keep their virginity when others don’t give a damn about it.

CC: Some are due to religious beliefs like in Christianity, some are due to their own morality whereas some truly believes in reserving that first time for their partners. However, the number of such ppl is diminishing. There are, but can be considered rare I guess.

I think reality has already shown that men are not the only one at fault as often potrayed.
