05/07/2008 - Haw Par Villa

We were having a picnic at Haw Par Villa on Saturday and honestly, plenty of flashbacks from childhood. One of it, you can find it here. Let’s cut the story short… there’s bloggers minus politics, there’s food plus feed for fishes, there’s humid weather and plenty of mosquitoes. You know what guys? We should really bring some battery-operated fans and insect repellent next time. Oh ya, Mintea brought along very nice finger-licking good curry puffs.
Overall, a great picnic we had. Of course, those wasn’t with us miss out on a great show. It seemed like privacy is really a great problem, that couples are even making out in Haw Par Villa. The cohort of us made a “detour” and 30mins later, they were still at it. (Let’s not even talk about DK + Nicole + Golden Package. Family affair lah!) It’s only natural, since the crowd is really pathetic.
I still remembered it was utterly packed in 1980s, when we couldn’t even take a proper photograph without people walking infront of your lenses.
I realized from the trip that Haw Par Villa is really rundown these days. The ponds were all full of algae, and I can’t help but wonder are the animals really happy in those living conditions. There isn’t a single pond that we can see the bottom reasonably, except for the fountain right at the back. But that’s another thing, because there was only centimetres of water.

Gee, that’s really run-down. I went there in the 70s at most twice and have never been there since (if memory serves me right).
Pity!
Why’s Nelson a turtle? Hmm…
We’re always joking about OKT in Geylang, so whenever I see the tortoise it reminds me of Nelson. I’m not saying he’s one of course. Hahaha!
