Is MP3 on mobile phones becoming a bad idea?

Written by ED on July 26, 2008 – 6:55 am -

I was on my way down to catch a glimpse of the iPhone when I was attacked with three different waves of MP3. Something wasn’t right from the very second I stepped in, and it took only one station for me to realize I was getting very irritated. I think the packed crowd during peak hours was already a “bad start” to begin with and I seriously wondered how much “improvement” MRT has made.

As I managed to grab a seat smack in the centre of the cabin, a fellow next to me has a SMS ringtone that went, “message… messaGE… messAGE… mesSAGE… meSSAGE… MESSAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok fine, it got everyone’s attention but just not the owner of the phone. For a full four seconds I wondered why the owner has the phone in his hand but just can’t press the “read” button. Nvm if he flung his long hair several times, and apologize to me countless times. I was close to grabbing his hair and just whip out my lighter right there.

Choosing the right life jacket can save your life

Written by ED on July 17, 2008 – 3:16 am -

Chillycraps recently wrote about his concern when another undergraduate drowned during his yacht training. Heavily dependent on a life jacket in my previous employment, I am therefore putting this up as a guide when getting involved with sea sports. Over time, I have “chased” back many sea sports enthusiast for not wearing their life jackets. To them, it’s only a formality issue. To me, it meant the world between life and death.

The first issue that I need to tackle, is changing your mindset about wearing life jackets. They are certainly not for formality sake. A life jacket typically allows you to stay afloat for prolonged periods, anything between 24 hours to 72 hours. This period of time increases the chances of you being spotted and rescued compared to a lone overboard individual without anything to stay afloat with. Also, some modern life jackets are even equipped with GPRS transponders that send out radio signals. These are subsequently picked up to locate your exact location.

My personal endorsement of Scary Harry at Martini InnerCity Festival 2008

Written by ED on July 11, 2008 – 4:58 pm -

One of the common problems among my circle of friends, is finding a drink that is equally strong as what we have been drinking all these years. Having been a drinker of Chivas Regal and Kilkenny for more than 10 years, I haven’t quite seemed to get another drink that got me hooked so badly.

Never mind the Flaming Lamborghini, or Graveyard… or even Seven Wonders of the World. Those are occasional knock-out favourites when served with a mixture of beer, whiskey and red wine. But, drinking isn’t all about puking all over and collapsing on the sidewalks. Some of us just like to sit by the riverside and chill out over drinks. Yet, we do not want to be served with bland and watered down stuffs.

NS is a dread? No, we are proud of it.

Written by ED on July 3, 2008 – 10:04 am -

National Service has always been a big taboo in the lives of Singapore males. The sound of it with 18 years of prior existence really knock some sense into many of us. Hey, it’s time to grow up. Quit all the five stones and magic cards. In place, you get a duffer-bag-ful of items as though we have been sentenced to one of the labor camps.

Perhaps it’s coincidence. I just went back for a mob briefing on Monday, due to certain reasons that I can’t disclose openly. The situation of neighbouring countries are a little messy, that’s all I supposed I can say. And I feel this is something all Singaporeans should be aware of, and not sweep under the carpet. I came back, and I was delighted to read other prominent bloggers also talking about NS. What truly touched me, was DK’s description of the peaceful Singapore we are looking at now. All these can vanish within minutes. Once upon a time, we lamented as teenagers for having to leave our sexy little girlfriends (read sweet young things), spending day and night with a robotic-alike wife (read M16… sound effect very loud too!). Maybe a poster of Mariah Carey or Jennifer Lopez made lives a little easier in those years.
