NS is a dread? No, we are proud of it.
Written by ED on July 3, 2008 – 10:04 am -National Service has always been a big taboo in the lives of Singapore males. The sound of it with 18 years of prior existence really knock some sense into many of us. Hey, it’s time to grow up. Quit all the five stones and magic cards. In place, you get a duffer-bag-ful of items as though we have been sentenced to one of the labor camps.
Perhaps it’s coincidence. I just went back for a mob briefing on Monday, due to certain reasons that I can’t disclose openly. The situation of neighbouring countries are a little messy, that’s all I supposed I can say. And I feel this is something all Singaporeans should be aware of, and not sweep under the carpet. I came back, and I was delighted to read other prominent bloggers also talking about NS. What truly touched me, was DK’s description of the peaceful Singapore we are looking at now. All these can vanish within minutes. Once upon a time, we lamented as teenagers for having to leave our sexy little girlfriends (read sweet young things), spending day and night with a robotic-alike wife (read M16… sound effect very loud too!). Maybe a poster of Mariah Carey or Jennifer Lopez made lives a little easier in those years.

Missing grandfather has passed on…
Written by ED on June 12, 2008 – 9:14 pm -Just a short while ago I posted up an appeal regarding a missing grandfather. Well, I have just received news that he was found and was sent to the police. However, he failed to survive and had since passed on. I offer my condolences to his family.
For the rest who took the trouble to read and assisted in spreading the initial appeal. Thank you, on behalf of the family.

Singapore Government needs better HR management
Written by ED on June 10, 2008 – 5:48 am -Hey, I don’t put up such a bold title if I haven’t had concrete evidence alright? I was just having coffee when one of the news report in Channel NewsAsia almost choked me to death. After catching my breath, I am now laughing as I typed this post. If you’re curious, it’s here that reported about the Government keeping the 3/4 tank rule for Singapore vehicles travelling up north.
No, I have no problem with that. Maybe I should say, I have grown used to it. Removing the 3/4 tank rule or not doesn’t really makes a lot of difference in Singapore. When funds are lost through one avenue, there’s always something else to bank on to recuperate those revenues.

Do you remember Pulau Merlimau?
Written by ED on June 9, 2008 – 7:36 am -Until today, the Singapore Refinery Company fire on Pulau Merlimau in 1988 is Singapore’s longest fire ever documented. It lasted for a whopping 4 days and chilled many spines of Singaporeans. It seemed weird to be talking about this fire, I know. It was the fire that destroyed a Woodlands factory a few days ago which aroused memories of Pulau Merlimau fire.
Pulau Merlimau is now a part of Jurong Islands. For those in the later generations, some probably didn’t even know Singapore had such a big fire to battle. I am sure however, the older generations will remember the incident pretty clearly, especially after the collapse of Hotel New World in 1986.
