What are we praying for?

Written by ED on June 20, 2008 – 1:40 pm -

Qwerty’s comment in where I discussed about proving Christianity with Science, aroused my attention to another issue which I long wanted to talk about. This is not to rebutt him, but I have to thank him for reminding me of something I have forgotten. It was sparked off when he asked if prayers could heal an amputee.

Prayers are not uncommon to Christians, and do not be surprised that even the most agnostic person can unknowingly utter a word of prayer. To whom, you may ask? I don’t know seriously. I draw your attention back to the specific act of prayers though.

Is my English really so difficult to understand?

Written by ED on June 11, 2008 – 8:01 am -

I thought this had better be done right, before Mr Heng-Cheong Leong continue to twist my words into something else, which isn’t the case. As some of you would have read one of my previous post here, Mr Heng seemed to have totally misunderstood where I stand regarding the issue.

I am not going to parrot Mr Heng word for word but I will just address the points he raised, and the complete *insert your own word* he is putting up in my blog. For a matter of fact, the others whom have left comments in my post clearly get the picture which he doesn’t. Whether Mr Heng is one of the mouthpieces of the Government, I ain’t sure. It’s just one of those episodes where we pose queries to our Government on a certain issue, the queries are unanswered and twisted into something else.

When keeping silent is no longer an option…

Written by ED on June 11, 2008 – 3:33 am -

Honestly, how many of you guys have faced issues in life which you had kept silent about… but yet, you feel the intense urge or desire to blurb it out? I’m curious, seriously. It’s a wish that you could do just that, but somehow you can’t for one reason or another. Let me guess, you have had that experience in your own family, perhaps at your workplace or even your own friends.

We know this saying, don’t we? That, if it doesn’t really matter then no respond is required. Every other person on Earth has muttered these words at some point, and once in a while I do question the validity of such statements. Is it something that we truly mean? Or will that be just a piece of comforting literature?

The Many Faces of National Service - Part 2

Written by ED on June 2, 2008 – 10:55 pm -

I have since covered the devils in National Service, but SAF is not entirely bad too. No doubt 80% of the times we complained about serving NS as a waste of our times, deep inside each and everyone of us we know Singapore cannot survive without us. Being NSmen, we are going to be one of the first few soldiers who are going to be deployed when war strikes Singapore.

Before I go on to talk about the 5 angels in NS, there are some stuffs I would like to clarify. Firstly, some of these experiences are not encountered by me. You can say it’s the top 5 most common categories encountered by NSmen during our active days, good or bad.

The Many Faces of National Service - Part 1

Written by ED on June 2, 2008 – 3:31 am -

I just met my (NS) Platoon Commander for supper over the weekend, joking about all the devils and angels during our active NS days. We had the opportunities to be dealing with so many difference individuals with their own unique characters and personalities within such a small compound, we had no choice but to live with it, be it we like a specific person or not.

Come to think of it, it’s really amazing how all of us managed to survive. Of course, most of the boys from across the causeway does not get to taste this unique experience of serving NS with our Army. At the end of it, it’s not just NS that made it fun. It’s the process of going through it that left a deep impression in many of us.
