University teach some everything… but just not using brains.

Written by ED on April 20, 2008 – 8:14 am -

My niece came back from school on Friday with tears and sulking for the rest of the day. After a little pressure, she began to told me how her teacher labelled her as “lazy”. I asked if it was anything to do with late homeworks, she said no. Apparently, what triggered the teacher off was her ink-printed name on her assignments.

Basically, I bought her a self-inking printing kit and taught her how to use it much earlier, when school started for a short while. She brought back all her books, because her teacher has requested for all pages to be identified by their names and class. There were 5 books, each with more than 100 pages. Gosh, I can’t even imagine myself writing my name on more than 100 pages as an adult, what about a kid? So I bought the printing kit from Popular bookstore, on my way back from my Sunday service one day.

Apologies…

Written by ED on September 28, 2007 – 10:11 pm -

I apologize if I haven’t been replying comments quick enough or blog hopping, due to some domestic commitments. My dad has been hospitalised for his high blood pressure since 6am, this morning.

The last time this happened was two to three weeks ago, when he was given outpatient treatment. This time round, the doctor decided to keep him there to run tests. He was sent for tests every two to three hours today.

Forgiveness… and thereafter

Written by ED on September 19, 2007 – 12:37 pm -

Many have asked people like us, how did we do it? With all these painful memories, betrayal and physical abuses, how can we ignore everything that had been inflicted on us?

Keeyit commented in my previous post, that forgiveness is not forgetting. That is precisely the idea that I am trying to pass across. Most of us tend to associate forgiveness with forgetting the experiences and hurt, but I can tell you that is impossible. I will explain why…

Forgiveness

Written by ED on September 18, 2007 – 10:16 pm -

An easy word for most, so easy to the extend that it takes a lifetime to learn and achieve. The simplicity of this act, stretches beyond the relief of guilt in someone but also unlock one from resentment that can linger around until the day we die.

I am sure all of us have suffered some form of injustice in our life regardless of our age. There’s this saying that time will heal it all, but hurt is something that can intensify over time. Take September 11th for example, the families of the dead watched their loved ones being killed before their eyes again and again. How possible can a dead be killed again? Well, the television broadcast are playing that scene repeatedly, isn’t it?

I was in a good mood…

Written by ED on August 18, 2007 – 12:53 pm -

The keyword is “WAS”… and it turned foul.

What is wrong with people these days? Ok fine… I’m talking about my mum. She came right through my door… WHEN MY DOOR IS LOCKED! WTH!

Do people ever learn what is respect? My door is ALWAYS locked when I am in the room for one simple reason, I don’t enjoy having anyone (including my family) to come into my room as and when they like. What reason can there be when someone keeps their room door locked? Just like some who locked certain blog posts, you don’t need to ask and it’s obvious! It’s not meant for public eyes. Is that so freaking hard to understand? I have extremely low tolerance towards this issue, because it has been many many many many years!

And there she is… took the spare key, opened it and WALKED RIGHT INTO MY ROOM WITHOUT EVEN KNOCKING ON THE BLARDY DAMN DOOR! Is it going to break all her fingers by knocking on the door at least? I spent the last 15mins screaming my lungs out at her. I hardly go into a flying rage targetted at her. I know it’s not a very nice thing to do at parents, but sadly after so many freaking years she just don’t get it. Or is it a blatant disregard for privacy? Sorry, she asked for it because no matter how lowly educated she is… I seriously don’t believe she is stupid!

Do people ever learn? Someone tell me? Or are my words not harsh enough for her to understand?

Thank God I am going out later, first thing to buy? A DOOR CHAIN! Just like the chain with a holding bolt you used for hotel rooms to hook from the inside. Even if the door is unlocked, she can’t open it at all when it’s chained from the inside. It is crazy even in my own home I have to take such extreme measures. Complete madness!

Moving out IS a NECESSITY! Dammit!

Reflections over home cooked food

Written by ED on August 10, 2007 – 9:30 pm -

My family is overseas for tour… and I love it. First, it’s the peace that I get. I have the entire place to myself and I play my music pretty loud without people banging my room’s door. Not that it is that loud, they just have something against the kind of music I listen to. Play anything to their liking, nothing’s too loud even when I am sleeping. Now you know the other reason why I am in desperate need to move out… when this affects my doing of music. It became a neccessity instead of want.

The other thing I like, is the complete freedom to cook my own food. Most housewives like my mum cooks the meals, so half the time even if they have a bad hair day and something weird ends up on the dining table - nothing much we can complain about. When it finally comes to a situation like now, many pampered people would pray for their quick return but not me. I wish they can stay overseas longer so I can do my own cooking.I had Japanese food and two Mcdonald’s meals over yesterday, I reckon today would be a good day to detox myself with some decent home cooked dinner. Yep, I skipped lunch with three cups of coffee and a cookie. I began to crave for Chicken Cabbage Soup again so very quickly I bought all the ingredients from NTUC. For tonight, I’m having…

Chicken Cabbage Soup

Tofu - Minced Pork

Oyster Sauce Baby Kailan

As I learnt cooking several years back after renting my own apartment out there, I began to understand what it seriously meant “children (no matter how old) are forever little kids in the parents’ eyes”. As I was browsing through NTUC, there was this lady who was trying to choose some fresh vegetables when her mum interrupted her. She told her mum she knew what she wanna buy and her mum just went yakkaty yakkaty yakkaty. Amusing scene to me, because I have such parents. Mum does most of the cooking, but apparently she thinks that I can’t even survive with a woman who can’t cook a decent meal. On the contrary, my elder sister can’t even cook a pot of rice without accidents. She doesn’t know how much water to put in. Beat that! And I thought preparing rice is one of the easiest, apart from instant noodles.

Sometimes I wish I could just tell her; Mum, I’m all grown up… I have lived by myself for two freaking years which you don’t know where… I have been sailing out in South China Sea for more than three years and prepared meals for my entire ship crew with half-past-six cooking skills. The only thing they can do is fried fried fried. That’s the easiest for them, until I joined their ship and shook my head at their cooking. One of the senior man in the ship and I - being the better cooks - volunteered to prepare meals for the entire ship instead of wasting precious ingredients at their hands. Sure, it cuts into our resting time… but at least I know I am eating better food and I go to rest a happier man.

Mum, why do you think I was snooping around the kitchen as a primary school child whenever you cook? I was stealing knowledge! Hahaha!

I think my elder sister has more to worry about not being able to get married than I do. With or without a woman, it doesn’t really makes alot of difference. Not like I can’t cook for myself?

Some may ask, what’s the big deal about home cooked food? The big deal is, throw the majority of Singaporeans in a war-zone, they are probably going to die of hunger instead of getting shot by bullets. McDelivery in Afghanistan? You’d wish! So why shouldn’t some of us be proud that we can fill our own tummy without relying on others? What’s even more humorous is whenever I hear “Singaporeans love food…” I tend to finish off the sentence in my heart with “… but they can’t cook!” Of course, a small handful of friends around me know how, and sometimes we cook and bring over to each other’s place for a mini-gathering.

I enjoyed my dinner thoroughly… what did you have?

Before

After

BURPPPPzzzzzzz!!!
