It’s always entertaining to read about what Dr. Mahathir says about Singapore. I am beginning to suspect if he is secretly hiding his adoration of Singapore, given the countless occasions that he cited this little red dot as one of the influential factors on Malaysia’s internal politics.

For an average man on the ground like me, I can’t help but feel sorry for Dr. Mahathir sometimes. His recent resignation from UMNO and the subsequent lack of supporting members in his call for more resignations, made him look like a train running out of steam. Hanging the word “Singapore” by his lips in almost every other criticism against Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Abdullah Badawi, looks convincing of a man depleted of bullets. The descriptive term of “falling from grace” keep surfacing in my head.

Today, a different tune is sung by Senior Minister of State for Transport, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, whom just said it is impossible for a zero-error system. I wished, it was Mrs Lim Hwee Hua who serviced me at the counter some years ago.

I believe for every technology, there are always room for failures. Even hi-tech fighter jets and automated systems in manufacturing industry possess a certain degree of mistakes in which human intervention is necessary. I came to realize that highlighting a problem in a new system is so much more difficult than getting proper response to a documented problem.

I felt it is absolutely IMPERATIVE to defend my own country when unfair allegations (that are less than factual) are thrown at Singapore, arising out of the final verdict passed down by ICJ. The leaders of both countries have declared that they will accept the judgement even before it was announced, and I wonder why some Malaysians can’t.

In the very last comment left by Mr Chan Chin Chow (in this post), he asked in his first line “Singapore acts aggressively in controlling what is not theirs. Do you all agree?” My answer, “No, I do not agree.” I am drawing a bold assumption that Mr Chan is a Malaysian, based on the context he has written in. I can understand the differences in opinions, but while this is so, it is in my beliefs that when allegations are thrown it had better be factual.

When I said “protest”, I actually meant physical planting of an individual or a group of like-minded people at a certain venue for the causes they are standing up for. This has been a question on my mind for a long time, because protesting in such a manner seemed like an old-fashioned move to get a message across. So how effective is protesting seriously?

The most recent protests that I can bring upon this post, is the worldwide protest against China and the price hike protest in Indonesia. Both, contained a certain element of violence in the process, which kinda swayed my sympathy towards China even though I do not agree with their policies towards Tibet. Whether the violence was planned, or a natural degrading of the cause to riots, I cannot say for sure.

I thought I could add on a little bit to my previous post on the verdict of Pedra Branca, ever since it was announced. Thank you for all the comments too, which are food for thoughts. I guess some of us who are really interested in the topic per se, is going through the process of acceptance. The fact is that, most Malaysians and Singaporeans in modern days are well aware of the strategic advantage of Pedra Branca.

One of the arguments by some Malaysian friends rooted primarily in the distance of Pedra Branca from Malaysia coast, and that of the distance from Singapore’s coast. Along with it, was also the attempt to strip Malaysia’s historical leaders of their powers. Ironically, by their very own people to justify their modern day claim.
