Removal Of Shoutmix Due To Abuse

Written by ED on October 30, 2008 – 3:56 am - Posted in Blogosphere, Singapore |

I guess I had enough of Shoutmix or rather, what we know as tag board or whatever. I need to be clear, it isn’t the fault of Shoutmix even though I can only do more in the form of ban control unless I am a paying user. Nothing wrong with such limitations, but that’s beside the point.

I received four very interesting messages on my tag board, criticizing the way I preached about social media and of course, THE USUAL PERSONALITY ATTACKS. It didn’t just stopped at that. A fellow associate’s full name was being used to conduct the “attack”, but I am not going to mention the name here. I barely sent an SMS to notify him that his name had been used, and in what ways his name was used.

1. As everybody knows, I no longer talk about official social media stuffs (past/present/future work stuffs in fact) in this blog. This is already old news if you have been following me for a period of time. It’s puzzling though, why isn’t the “attacker” commenting at a place where I discussed social media and chooses to do it here?

2. I am fine if you disagree with my views. It doesn’t matter even if we have a heated argument. But, I do despise individuals who had to borrow someone else’s name to conduct an attack without any basis.

3. Online flamings are common. I can’t even remember when was the last time I participated in online flaming. I think… none? Whoever it is, this is the game you chose to play. Guess what? I didn’t choose to play with you. So now, you can go play with your own toes. *laugh*

4. If someone is trying to agitate me into an outburst, you underestimated me. As Sun Tzu’s Art of War says; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle. Clearly, you don’t know me. How do you want to wage a war? *sighz*

5. If you really had a good valid point, you would have used at least an identifiable and constant pseudonym instead of “Guest”. I think that’s as clear as crystal what your true intentions are.

6. Even though I had retrieved your IP address (202.156.13.6), I will not be wasting time trying to track you down. For a matter of fact, a lawyer and court order is required. To that, no, you ain’t worth the money. Try harder. *laugh*

7. For someone to launch such an attack, obviously I am a “threat” to whatever “social media” activities that particular person is involved with. It’s no secret I am a hardcore advocate of transparency and ethics. Obviously, we are standing on different grounds. Little guessing as to why most top-10 list of ethical organizations around the world are majorly made up of not-for-profit organizations and not businesses.

8. The attacker left a note saying… “get a life”. Unfortunately, I do have one which I can stand straight and walk straight. I do have one that I can safely look at myself in the mirror, I have done nothing against my conscience. I am not so sure about “you” though. *laugh*

I have always been pessimistic about the state of Singapore’s blogosphere, and evidently I have been proven right once more. It’s probably one of the nastiest environment you can be in, and to survive all these onslaught, you will need a lot of tolerance. So for those who are still considering if you should pick up blogging, do weigh the pros and cons and ask yourself if you can take the flaming and abuse.

The day I told myself I will NOT be bootlicking people (bloggers, marketers, PR), I am already mentally prepared I will be standing on my own without all the mobbings.

But well, it’s enough to put up this post specially for “you”. But that’s about it that “you” deserve. I certainly wish May Peace Be With You… especially when you had to go sleepless and post such angry messages in the wee hours.

somehow those people find thrill in doing those stuff, I have no idea why they fail to see that their action just goes to show how lowly and immature they are.

if they really have substance, they would have boldly have a proper discussion or debate, even if the views are different.

I do notice there’s a rise of bloggers (or people in general) who conveniently uses another person’s name boldly to conduct attacks. If I happen to know the person mentioned, I will certainly keep that individual informed. It’s only rightful.

    See you for dinner later.

I never really understood what its like to receive tagboard abuse until i opened my blog. Its sad that people resort to personal attacks when they seem out of ideas to counter your points. Its blatantly disrespectful but then again, they, as net users, dont really give a damn about netiquettes. The only thing we can do is ignore them, but really, I would love to sock them in the face sometimes…
