Pagerank - My ignorance saves my arse!

Thanks to Ah Pek, I managed to verify my Google pagerank at Digpagerank. I was very doubtful and appalled about the Google PR4 I am getting for both my sites because of several reasons.

1. This blog doesn’t bring in an obscene amount of unique visitors or simply - traffic.
2. This blog caters to no niche. Most links are to general bloggers.
3. Current affairs discussed in this blog are so super-diversified.
4. The BizWalk was established for only a month or more.
5. I don’t monetize both my blogs way too much.
6. I am simply clueless about monetizing blogs. I don’t even do sponsored posts for now, as you can see.

So what’s going on with all these?

After spending an hour going through Ah Pek’s blog and the numerous links he included, I am glad to say… my ignorance of monetizing blog saved my arse instead of going through “heartbreak” like many high profile bloggers. No, this is not to the extent that i am as good as them. Allow me to explain.

By now, those whom have read my series of posts on Web 2.0 and also the latest negative review of Nuffnang, it is not difficult to see the gigantic skepticism in me with regards to monetizing blogs and the Web 2.0 applications. Most of these remarks are based on my own realistic experiences in the business world, and I refrained from writing anything I do not know of, or at least done some researches.

Being the ignorant internet user that I am, I am simply too lazy to read up on monetizing blogs and stuffs. Whatever textlink ads or paid links, I seriously have no idea how all these work and how beneficial they are. Hence, I have not used any of them. In fact when Ah Pek mentioned about hidden links in free themes, I frantically checked through my themes to see if my themes are hidden with such links. Thankfully, both my blogs are clean. This blog theme is not linked to any designer because I had spent so much time and effort customising it from scratch, it has become a theme by itself. The BizWalk, on the other hand, uses a free theme designed by Micheal Pollock, CEO of Solostream. Micheal doesn’t do sponsored Wordpress themes even if he has nothing against those who do.

When I finally read Ah Pek’s post on The Pagerank Fiasco, then I began to gain a little more insight in how PR affects not just the high profile bloggers, but also bloggers across the entire band.

So with the absence of textlink ads or paid links which I do not understand much and not because I don’t like them, it literally preserved my blogs as “clean”. I always believed that the true professionals are always the ones trying to cheat beat the systems, and this fiasco has indeed turned out that way. The smarter a person, the more lightly he or she will be straying.

So being ignorant and not being a geek can rule at times afterall. I didn’t do anything special, but it is precisely my non-action of any sort that kept the blogs clean and free from such penalties.

Being ignorant, can be quite a blessing. Don’t you think so? Whoever says I am a goon now, I will slap you on your head and laugh at your demoted pagerank. LOL!

Ah Pek has a really good site giving out blogging tips. I ought to slap myself for not discovering this gem earlier until I drop by reading his latest post. He is definitely going into my Essentials, once I am done with my procrastination. Hahaha! I am sure Ah Pek will forgive me, better late than never.

Pagerank (PR) is becoming irrelevant these days …unless you’re a Text-Link-Ads affiliate. Let’s also not forget that the toolbar PR is delayed and Google is using a different number/scale to rank you by now.

That said, although there’s been a drop in PR for some of my sites, there’s been absolutely no change in rankings, traffic and Adsense earnings.

Larry: Somewhat agree, somewhat disagree. Like what Ah Pek mentioned, people like John Chow who has a whole list of followers, PR doesn’t matters to them. I think it matters more to people who are slowly climbing up and building up their audiences. Once there with that group, PR probably means little to them from there.

Not sure about Google toolbar but oh well, you just mentioned something I should read into. I only installed the Firefox extension that shows the PR but not the Google toolbar.

I don’t care much for monetizing my blog and pagerank. As I have always told those who cared, if I were that concerned about monetizing my blog and pagerank, I’ll be focusing my blog on other issues other than what it does now. :-)

And I agree that AhPek has a good blog; I am a silent reader, hehe! And thanks to him and the link I am going to update my WordPress to 2.3.1 without much hassle!

ED: your Firefox extension is showing the same number as the toolbar PR. Google uses an “internal” PR with a more refined scale for ranking websites, while the “public” PR we see is only updated once every 3 months or so. ;)

Larry: Thanks for enlightening. Now I know… woooooo very exciting. I shall keep an eye on it, and try out for the sake of it. Just that I don’t like the search that’s all. Thanks again!

Damien: This is the first time I am checking, out of curiosity after reading another blog writing about PR. The formula is pretty complicated it seems.

Brian: Been to your site, it’s pretty clean. Personally, the ads here doesn’t restrict whatever I wanna write about so far.
