Blog relaunched…

Written by ED on May 5, 2008 – 3:18 am - Posted in Blogosphere, Trivial & Whining |

The long holiday over the past week gave me some time to set up this blog with a new theme, and relaunched with a little different “branding”. Those whom have complaint feedback-ed to me that the previous colour scheme was too depressing, I hope this little change will make it a slightly more pleasant experience.

With the reason upgrading of Wordpress to Version 2.5, it seemed to me that quite a few themes I have tried are not as compatible as I thought it would be. No pain no gain, I’m not complaining even though it has been quite a hassle for an IT-idiot like me to attempt fixing the problems. I gave up, and by luck I found this theme. I think my previous theme is a tat too heavy, and now I like this clean new look at the expense of my favourite picture you used to see.

1. It’s not complete yet.
A matter of fact, it’s still in drips and draps. The sidebar is evidently not done yet, but I don’t expect to put it too much stuffs like before. The feeds and stuffs are all missing, but I will throw them in soon! (I’ll tell you something shameful about me. Until now I still don’t know how to use Custom Field. LOL!)

2. ShareThis widget.
Instead of a whole row of icons, I decided to use the ShareThis widget and it looks neater. If you like any of my post, PIMP IT! Haha!

3. Featured content.
I decided to put up this slideshow to share interesting articles or blogs I read every week. One of the themes I tested only allowed me to stream my own contents. I never quite understood why I need to repeat my own contents in there, when they can be found by surfing through my site. I dropped that theme of course, and I was totally overjoyed to find this new slideshow plugin. It allows me to manually link specific pictures I store in my album and also the respective URL to the article. I’m testing with Kriscell’s post, go ahead and click it. Sharing is love!

4. Cleaning up the theme and plugin folder.
I realized that some plugin writers didn’t even bother to update their plugins to ensure they are compatible with the latest Wordpress. Maybe they have their work commitments, so I am going to delete some away. With new plugins that have been recommended to me, I think they will be doing a better job now. The useless themes are also going to be deleted, the whole chunk of themes in the WP-admin interface irritates me somehow.

That’s about it I guess. Very simple design, brighter and hopefully faster. What do you think? Send me some feedbacks la…!
