Advertlets dropped

Written by ED on June 2, 2008 – 3:28 pm - Posted in Blogosphere |

Impromptu post I know. I’m afraid the angels of National Service will have to wait for the next post. Save the best for the last, isn’t it? I guess I have had about enough with blog advertising companies, and from now you will see Advertlets disappear from my world. Sorry Josh, Advertlets doesn’t seemed to make the cut very well either.

I think many bloggers don’t exactly need this sort of income. Likewise, I can drop these anytime and it ain’t gonna cripple my life in any way. Yet, bloggers who sign up for such advertising network expect to see realistic results instead of free publicity for companies.

The trend has changed completely, from less-impressions-more-CPM to more-impressions-less-CPM. I suspect the trend is due to the varying prices clients are paying for different advertisement campaigns. However, that possibility is only in part. There are still two other possibilities…

  • Lesser paying advertisements
  • No clients at all

The earnings as I described, is also ridiculous. I find it very hard to convince myself close to 3,000 impressions a day yielding RM$0.17 or earning nuts for some days is considered “good”. This inconsistency as compared to all the previous days of my ad-serving move, give me the perfect reason to knock it off my blog. Not forgetting, I have not received my cheque which I cashed out in March. As for the current SGD$4.825… let’s just forget about it. What am I going to do with that? Buy bak chor mee?

I can’t speak for Malaysian clients because I have now classified Advertlets as a complete failure in Singapore. The primary activities of Advertlets is in Malaysia and there are no managing staffs in Singapore. How does that impact Advertlets business here? I’ll leave you to figure that out.

The honest oversight of expired domain aside, I don’t see any serious commitment to grow the business here. Or has Josh washed his hands off completely ever since Advertlets partnered up with ClickTRUE? Honestly, I see very little explanation how this partnership works. Is ClickTRUE providing the advertisements? Or is Josh having to look for his clients?

No doubt Josh tend to reply to queries much faster than other networks. What can explain the lack of advertisement in Singapore blogs? It is just not enough. We want substance… not just a pretty face.

Goodbye Advertlets. Enough time has been given.

The partnership should be a funding move more than anything else. In view of this andbloggers complaining of cashing out duration issues, it’s highly possible that advertlets are having $$$$$$$ difficulties.

    Hi,

We’ve noted your comments about payment. We previously clarified regarding the delay and have also provided a timetable at the following blog post. Based on the schedule, you should be receiving it soon:

    http://www.advertlets.com/weblog/2008/05/10/scheduled-maintenance-this-sunday-pending-cashouts/

We are sorry that you did not have a satisfactory experience, but do note that there are currently new campaigns running, and that at the last day of your graph, earnings were trending upwards.

Of note is that impressions alone are not a good indicator of income, the origin also counts. It would be good though, if you could let us know your traffic breakdown by country so that we can compare it with our stats as well. As the majority of our ad sales are in Malaysia & Singapore, blogs that have a traffic mix mostly consisting of visits from these countries achieve the best results.

We appreciate your feedback on this if possible, thanks.

    Hey Endoh,

I totally understand what you’re saying.
    Its really weird.

I signed up for NN and Advertlets at the same time, and they were paying out pretty evenly. But i wanted to test something by removing NN for for a few months (after i stopped getting ads as i wasn’t in the Glitterati club).

I can’t say how many months exactly, i’m guessing around two. But at this very moment, i have made $3 more in NN than in Advertlets.

I seriously think Advertlets isn’t moving at all, like what you said.

Perhaps something will pop up soon.

Did Advertlets perform well in Malaysia? Perhaps you should read these posts:

Advertlets still owe me a few cheques. Josh, are you going to pay or not to pay?

  7. DeltaP Says:

Count me in as one of the ones who made an exodus from Advertlets to Nuffnang. One week after I joined, I landed the motherload of all sponsored posts: Project Trafford. :P

    Hi endoh,

Goodpost. I was wondering about the cost per impression dropping off through the days too. But unlike you, I am not able to cash out yet from advertlets at all.

I have dropped nuffnang earlier on also.

To tell the truth, it’s pretty silly when I realised everyone is displaying the same ads, who will actually click when they finally come to your site?

Adsense “seems” to be a better choice as I have earned enough to receive the activation pin for payouts. Though not actual payouts yet, haha, wait long long…

  9. Ms RP Says:

    Hi endoh,

I am curious about the emails as I don’t remember receiving emails “teaching” on clicking ads.

For the activation pin, when you reach the USD $10 mark, google adsense will send a slow mail to your address with a pin for activating payouts. If you don’t activate with the pin after 4 months, they will eventually stop displaying ads except for public service announcements and even remove your earnings after 6 months. But you need to accumulate USD$100 to withdraw your earnings.

My feeling about adsense is that they “may” work with certain blogs as they have more geotargeted advertisements than advertlets or nuffnang combined. I also noticed there are more singapore advertisers than before. Probably because they make it very easy to advertise with their adwords.

Also, it depends on your type of crowd, meaning will they be attracted and curious about the ads to make a click?

    just my 2cents.

[...] From Advertlets, there weren’t any scandals about arguements or sex but more of the usual non payment issues. 6 months of non-payment?! Come on Josh, that’s a tad long even for non-active members! It’s no wonder some bloggers are choosing to drop Advertlets. [...]

“honest oversight of expired domain aside”
LOL you should go ask Advertlets’ domain registrar about this ‘honest oversight’!

  13. Jacelyn Says:

I’m thinking of removing all the ads including adverlets and nuffnang. they aren’t making any move at all and everything they’ve said are pure empty promises. duh.
