A Month of Wordpress…
Written by ED on September 12, 2007 – 4:22 am - Posted in Blogosphere, Reviews |It’s been a month or so I have been using wordpress. I must admit there were some frustrations among the majority of happiness ever since I switched over from Blogger.
Choosing this theme alone was quite a headache. However, after surfing around I realised it’s quite easy to spot others with the very same exact theme. This is precisely why I tried to customise it as much as possible. I’m still not quite sure what other things I can or should do, but shamefully I have been procrastinating too much.
Things that I procrastinate:
1. Updating of pages.
I need to redo About ET and Essential Selections. Some friends wanted more personal details (errrr…) and personally I am not too satisfied with the way the badge/banners are in Essential Selections. I failed to update the rest of the pages like Events and Resources too. Lazy Bones…!
2. Addition to header banner.
I have been thinking about it for a long time, that the red patch up there seems empty. I’ve been considering what I can fill that red space with but until now I haven’t got the slightest clue. Any suggestions?
3. Top right space at corner.
See that space? That little box is where I wanna place in a visitor counter and the clock but but but… I still haven’t figure out how to do that. Is it creating another frame there? Which part of the codes? I am completely clueless. If anybody can help teaching me… much appreciation.
4. Plugins
I actually activated the Rechuked Buttons plugin but it failed. I’m not sure what is wrong as I am not good with such stuffs. Uninstalling and reinstalling plugins is always a panic button for me. The help forum was of no help, nobody even bothered to reply. Well, this is when I realised the support can be rather horrendous for free themes. Until now, I still don’t have the slightest clue how to troubleshoot it.
5. Adsense/Nuffnang
A few friends insisted that these are necessary. A matter of fact, I still don’t fancy the idea of having advertisments in my blog. If I were to add it it’s only out of aesthetic reasons because everyone else has it, not that I believe in it.
6. Text Editor

How I wish I could have something like blogger’s… and I do not have to key in the code of colours to change my font. Is there such a plugin for Wordpress text editor? It’s quite a hassle… don’t you think so?
I guess there is plenty more to do in terms of customising this blog. I get rather drained thinking how, so if any of my friends/readers have a suggestion how I can improve this blog - share with me?
Suggestions? Advice?
New additions:
1. Archives
Now there’s a page on the menu where anyone can look through my archives more easily. I think the previous archive box in the sidebar hardly do any good. This archives page will be more direct. I don’t like the whole chunk of words in Archives so I will see how I can clean it up.
2. Contact form
I have included a contact form in my Contact page. I have been wondering if I should put up my Windows Live Messenger etc but finally decide to use my email. Instead of putting up my email outright, I am using the contact form instead and it’s sent directly to my email. (Email form up and running now. test it if you like, drop me a note. *smile*)
Again… suggestions suggestions suggestions??
BTW, I apologize if some of your comments are casted as spams. It’s something Akismet did and I am sure it takes some time to learn which are spams which are not. I unblocked all the comments wrongfully thrown in spam box just a while ago. Sorry!

that color option is hidden in wordpress. to use the other options in your wysiwyg editor, press Alt Shift V
Hope that helps.

It takes a while for Akismet to learn unlike when it was in the free Wordpress.com I was using. So, no worries. If mine are still in there, unmark me!
As for the plugins, I use quite a lot. I don’t know where you got your plugin from but I found one, could be an alternative here. Other plugins I’m using would be Better Feed to control how my feeds look like by adding copyrights at the footer, Related Posts, etc.
My thoughts on Adverlets/Nuffnang is that I use them to pay for my hosting fees (hopefully).

I tried out wordpress for a week and decided I’ll stick to blogger. It was too much hassel to change.

keeyit: I just upgraded to 2.2.3 yesterday.
For text editor I just installed Visualize Advanced Features (< ==click to open in another tab) and I’m loving it. Very simple installation. Unzip into your plugin folder and activate it that’s all.
